Sargent's Daughters

John Singer Sargent's masterpiece The Daughter's of  Edward Darley Boit - is a puzzling scene of four daughters of friends of Sargent that invokes a variety of reactions and interpretations from viewers to the four young sisters who are in a vast yet indistinct room. The presentation of the artwork at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is made even more special by the placement of the two oversized vases in the painting next to the artwork - a remnant of the Boit's lavish lifestyle - as well as the excellent outline of the work by the MFA guide.

Sargent's work is a masterpiece that continues to weave it's magic, telling a story that speaks to people despite the passing of time. It is one of my favourites; the mystery of the image continuing to stay with me.
