The Passage of Delaware

Thomas Scully's The Passage of Delaware at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The painting was originally commissioned by the state of North Carolina for the Senate Hall of the State House in Raleigh. It was never hung there as the painting's dimensions made it too large for the available space. It was not surprising therefore to learn that even the MFA, Boston needed to construct a place specifically for the work.
